Air conditioning uses a gas or refrigerant under very high pressure. Since 2000 the refrigerant used was R134a but due to the fact 

that R134a is an Ozone damaging gas, European legislation has lead to the introduction of a new type of refrigerant 

R1234YF for automotive air conditioning systems from 2013. The new refrigerant R1234YF requires different service equipment.
